说起模具可能许多人没有听说过，甚至觉得它离我们生活较远。其实模具就伴随在我们身边，大到汽车，小到一块树脂眼镜片，我们的生活中应用到模具的东西随处可见。
模具设计师指从事企业模具的数字化设计，包括型腔模与冷冲模，在传统模具设计的基础上，应用数字化设计工具，提高模具设计质量，缩短模具设计周期等方面的工作人员。简单地说就是在一个产品生产出来之前先做出一个模型，而模具设计师就是设计这个模型的人。
模具设计是很复杂的工作，最基本的要求是每套模具之间必须恰到好处地配合。比如一个随身听需要近百套模具制作出来，每一个配件之间的接口都要严丝合缝。模具特点
模具是在冲裁、成形冲压、模锻、冷镦、挤压、粉末冶金件压制、压力铸造，以及工程塑料、橡胶、陶瓷等制品的压塑或注塑的成形加工中，用以在外力作用下使坯料成为有特定形状和尺寸的制件的工具。
模具具有特定的轮廓或内腔形状，具有刃口的轮廓形状可以使坯料按轮廓线形状发生分离，即进行冲裁；内腔形状可以使坯料获得相应的立体形状。
